The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:5). At some point in the life, every person goes through a time of darkness. Whether it is the darkness of failure, the darkness of sin, or the darkness of sorrow, there is no escaping the fact that darkness is all around us. This darkness may cause many to doubt, many to worry, and many to wonder, “Will the darkness win? Will evil prevail?
The answer to that question was given over 2000 years ago when Jesus Christ was born into the world. John 1:4-5 tells us that “In him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it”. The entrance of sin brought darkness to the world (or in the mind of men). Sin plunged the world in the sense that men in general neither knew God or wanted to know Him. Into the darkness, Lord Jesus Christ came as the light shining in a dark place. Jesus himself said to people that “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Jesus is that light so bright and so overwhelming light that whoever experienced it were forever changed.
Lastly, I want to encourage you to keep holding tied on your faith in Lord Jesus Christ. Even though darkness may sometimes seem overwhelming, but goodness will ultimately triumph over evil. Jesus is the light of the world, whoever believes in Him already has victory over sin and death. Remind yourself today that “You are an overcomer” (1 John 5:4-5). Scripture tells us that, “… God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15:17). Yes, there is joy and sadness, peace and madness in life but keep holding tied in your faith, they will make you stronger. Trust Him (Jesus) for that victory today.
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to come into this dark world as so bright and so overwhelming light. I rejoice in Jesus. Help me to stay strong in my faith, help me to run to Jesus when doubts creep in. Give me the heart to believe when it’s hard to believe. In Jesus, Amen.
